📝 Walkthrough

The change adds configurable fixed-variable and singleton-row barrier presolve, tracks reductions for postsolve reconstruction, updates presolve ordering, and adds QP ADAT regularization settings and adjustments.

Changes: Barrier presolve and QP regularization

Layer / File(s) Summary
Configure barrier settings
cpp/include/cuopt/..., cpp/src/dual_simplex/simplex_solver_settings.hpp, cpp/src/math_optimization/solver_settings.cu, cpp/src/pdlp/solve.cu
Adds settings for fixed-variable and singleton-row presolve and ADAT regularization. Sequence solves disable both presolve reductions. The settings registration describes barrier-cache exclusions.
Reduce and reconstruct presolved problems
cpp/src/dual_simplex/presolve.hpp, cpp/src/dual_simplex/presolve.cpp, cpp/tests/socp/solve_barrier_socp.cu
Adds fixed-variable and singleton-row reductions, records reduction data, shifts lower bounds, and updates presolve ordering. Postsolve reconstructs removed values and dual information. The test checks recovery of chained singleton-row slacks.
Adjust QP ADAT values
cpp/src/barrier/barrier.cu
For QP problems, ADAT formation adjusts the inverse diagonal for positive dual perturbation and adds configured relative regularization to existing diagonal entries.

Disable fixed-variable presolve when a barrier cache is supplied.

When sequence_solve is false, this helper can leave fixed-variable presolve enabled even when barrier_cache is supplied. The cache API accepts this workflow and stores the transform and iteration data after an optimal solve. On a later update_linear_objective, barrier_cache_t::update_linear_objective drops the updated coefficient for a removed fixed variable but retains its old contribution in obj_constant. The next cached solve can therefore report an incorrect objective value.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

Recover singleton-row slacks in reverse removal order.

The slack recovery loop runs in forward removal order. A later record can change a value that an earlier record reads, so forward order is wrong.

How the chain forms:

  • Pass 1 removes row r1 = {x_j, s}. It tightens the bounds of x_j and records slack = s.
  • After r1 is emptied from A, x_j can have col_length(j) == 1. If its objective is 0, is_slack(j) is true in pass 2.
  • Pass 2 removes row r2 = {x_k, x_j} and treats x_j as the slack. Line 1164 fixes x_j to 0, and postsolve must recover its real value from r2.

What goes wrong in postsolve:

  • The loop first handles r1. It computes s = (b1 - a_ij * x_j) / a_is with the placeholder x_j. That placeholder is 0 plus the lower-bound shift.
  • The loop then handles r2 and overwrites x_j with the correct value.
  • The returned primal solution violates row r1 by a_ij * (x_j_final - x_j_placeholder).

Chains of zero-cost auxiliary variables commonly produce this pattern. Rows of the form x_k + j = b2 and j + s = b1 are one example.

Reverse order fixes the problem. The value of x_j recovered from r2 lies inside the bounds that r1 implied, so the s computed afterward lies inside its own bounds. The dual pass below already iterates in reverse for the same reason.
